How to learn

Here are 10 recommendations for learning as a product manager (or actually any job):

  1. Don't learn random things.
  2. Start with finding a problem to solve (not with a solution).
  3. Start with yourself (not your team, department or company).
  4. Focus on changing something (not just digesting information).
  5. Be mindful of the gap between change and status quo (don't hope for huge changes).
  6. Use spaced repetition to reinforce what you learned before.
  7. Use existing knowledge to guide your learning.
  8. Find mentoring and mentor yourself.
  9. Reflect on your learning style.
  10. Ask "why" to understand what and how you learn.
